Overview

Food Zone, nestled just outside Sapperton station in New Westminster, offers a vibrant takeout experience that brings authentic Caribbean flavors to the local food scene. This cozy spot, tucked away at 30 Capilano Way, embodies a hidden gem quality—part speakeasy, part neighborhood favorite—where Jamaican cuisine and welcoming hospitality meet.

The heart of Food Zone’s menu centers on jerk-infused dishes that deliver bold, balanced flavors. Their standout items include the Chicken Sandwich paired with crispy potato wedges, which perfectly melds tender, spiced chicken with a satisfying crunch. Fans of quesadillas will find delight in the Jerk Chicken Quesadilla, laden with roasted red pepper, corn, and a blend of feta and mozzarella cheeses that melt into a golden crust. Notably, the house’s sweet coconut sauce cuts through the heat, creating a harmonious fusion of spice and sweetness that lingers pleasantly.

The diversity of the menu is striking, with options like sliders showcasing jerk chicken topped with fresh cabbage and a spicy habanero sauce, and jerk wings served alongside a colorful slaw. The food truck presence amplifies their reach, making Food Zone a go-to feed at local events while their brick-and-mortar location invites patrons to settle in for a relaxed meal accompanied by rhythmic island vibes.

Ambiance plays a strong role here. The space, though modest, feels inviting, with the subtle backdrop of steel pan music and a connection to a nearby bar and arcade that enhances the post-meal experience. The staff's friendliness and genuine engagement add to the charm, making each visit feel personalized and welcoming.

Food Zone appeals to a broad audience—those craving authentic Jamaican fare, locals seeking a flavorful meal to-go, and anyone looking to immerse themselves in Caribbean culture through cuisine. It’s a destination for both the curious newcomer and the seasoned enthusiast wanting a taste that recalls island memories with every bite.

Whether stopping by after a train ride or catching the food truck at a festival, Food Zone delivers a rich culinary experience that celebrates Jamaica’s vibrant food heritage with freshness, authenticity, and heart.

Interesting location near Sapperton station which seems to need to be more walkable from the main side of the station but still a nice walk to get to and they were nice to take my call today so it might be good to order ahead of time before going here in the future too to make sure they're not out at a food truck event

The food is fantastic. I commonly order the quesadilla as a lunch option and love how packed it is. The coconut sauce is great and there are options to really bring on the heat! People wise, the staff are friendly and like to connect with you, and some pleasant music in the background. The brick and mortar location is also close to a bar and arcade so it's a cool hidden gem just outside of Sapperton station (take the not so secret sky train exit to find it down the fire escape. It's like a speakeasy of Wonderful Jamaican food and hospitality. Please enjoy, I know I have.

This past weekend, we visited the Maple Ridge Caribbean Festival near Planet Ice. Their food truck was on site, and the aroma was alright. For dinner, we had the jerk chicken quesadilla with sweet potato wedges. OMG, the heat was perfect, the sweet was delightful, and the kick was what we asked for. In the background, we listened to the steel pan, and washed it all down with some ice-cold ginger beer. To die for Jamaican food!

A taste of the Caribbean on my door step. A hidden gem, open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is definitely worth a visit, you'll be greeted with great food and service. They have a food truck but more importantly they have a shop front (Food Zone) so that you can sit down and enjoy the food.

Takes me back to Jamaica ????????. I've spent time all over Jamaica and ate my fair share of jerk over there. The "Jerk chicken rice + peas/veg" meal from The Jerk Shack tasted authentic, reminded me of being back in the Caribbean and is good value for the price! Glad I accidentally stumbled upon this gem when I was checking out the craft breweries in Port Moody.
